Na zijn opleiding aan de Toho Gakuen School of Music bij Hisako Ueno, Michiko Okamoto en Shoichi Hase, studeert Masaya Kamei momenteel bij Momo Kodama aan de Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe en volgt hij een Soloist Diploma Course aan de Toho Gakuen School of Music. In 2022 kreeg hij internationale erkenning na het winnen van de Eerste Prijs, de Persprijs en de Publieksprijs op de Long-Thibaudwedstrijd in Frankrijk. In datzelfde jaar behaalde hij tevens de Derde Prijs op de Maria Canalswedstrijd. Tijdens een tournee door Japan in 2024 met het Budapest MÁV Symphony Orchestra trad hij ook op met orkesten als het NHK Symphony Orchestra, het Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra en het New Japan Philharmonic. In de zomer van 2024 werd hij uitgenodigd voor het Festival de la Grange de Meslay en het Lille Piano(s) Festival, en keerde hij terug naar het Festival de La Roque d’Anthéron voor een optreden met het Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille onder leiding van Lawrence Foster. Hij heeft reeds recitals gegeven in Wenen, Sydney en Seoul.
